I read a lot in the secular media about how they “HOPE” Pope Francis will change the churches position on Woman’s ordination, gay marriage, and Contraception. To which I say these issue have already been decided and Pope Francis couldn’t change them if he wanted to.

Am I right though?

Could a Pope change the churches position on these things?

Or are they already dogmatically defined?

He does not have the authority to allow it.

The media is crazy anyway.

Why do people who aren’t part of the Church care what the Church does? Makes no sense to me. 🤷

Nope, Pope Francis cannot allow women’s “ordination”. Why? Because it is utterly impossible for that to be done. The absolute only possible way for the doctrine on women’s “ordination” to change is for God to come down and tell us to change it. But the fact is, that is never going to happen because God never changes and therefore neither do His teachings.

It is beyond dogmatically defined, it falls into the category of triangles only having three sides and no matter what people claim it can not have a number of sides other than three.

The same crybabies who insist the Church mind its own business on issues like gay “marriage” spend half their time butting their nose into the Church’s affairs. Apparently, their rules apply to other people.

Their opinion is neither wanted, nor correct.

Because the Church is the sole fully Truthful representative to Jesus’ light to the dark world we live in and will always attract attention from people who are outside of it.

No, he is not God and and he can not change what God (God the Son - Jesus) established.

If only men had established those positions…but nope, it’s a divine teaching…and last time I checked, the pope is just a man. These fellows seem thus to hold him in even greater esteem that we do! 😃

What secular media? Is there a news story I missed? Since there is no link per forum rules and I have not come across anything like this in the media, I seriously doubt the premise of this post.

Even Bill Maher is frustrated with all the positive coverage of Pope Francis in the secular press. If that man’s complaining, you know something good is happening!

God Bless Pope Francis!

They are journalists first to change the world, and then maybe, report the news.
Maybe. And after you deduct sports, weather, useless drivel about celebrities and commercials, that leaves about 60 seconds, tops.

Fyi, of the “hot button” issues the only one that can be changed is priestly celibacy, because its a discipline, not doctrine

Right. God/the Holy Spirit can change the doctrine.

We have seen some teachings, traditions and laws from the past change…the laws on food and circumcision, for example, which both came from God (right?) and then changed 2000 years later. Teachings that adulterers should be stoned to death…that one changed. And others.

Re the rule on female ordination, how did the magisterium decide this one again?

Since as far as we know, Jesus is never quoted as saying this rule to anyone…did Peter and the others just pass it along to others that, “because Jesus picked us and we are men, there can only have male priests/popes for the rest of eternity,” and that’s how it came to be?

Or,
Did the Holy Spirit-God speak to someone specific out loud and and* tell* them this must be the case? (and if so, who? And when? I assume it would be recorded somewhere?)

God works in mysterious ways. To presume he can’t do something or change something would be…wrong, would it not?
Youre misunderstanding. The examples you list either existed before the Church, or are disciplines. Disciplines, like priestly celibacy, liturgical rules, etc can be changed because they are man made. Doctrine, which includes faith and morals, is part of the deposit of faith, and cannot be changed. Its not an opinion, it literally cannot change because the Pope and the magisterium dont have the authority to change it. Womens ordination is doctrine so it can never change.

Right. God/the Holy Spirit can change the doctrine.

The Old Law was fulfilled by Christ, thus we can eat pork, don’t stone women or men for adultery, and do not need to perform circumcision.

It was Christ, who is God, that fulfilled these laws, and ended these requirements, NOT a decree by the Church. The Church has not the authority to change the priesthood God (God the Son) chose to help shepard his Church.

And yes… as Catholic we believe in a Tradition that has been handed down throughout the centuries…

Haven’t you picked this up being in the forums as long as you have?
