Sue,

I am sorry for you. My wife has told me such great things about him. To where is he going? I am hoping toward the northwest corner of the Archdiocese!

Opposite direction - he’s going to have a cluster with St. Stephen’s in New Boston & St. Aloyisius in Romulus. I heard that this weeks’ Michigan Cafeteria Catholic has an article about our new pastor, but I haven’t seen it yet.

That’s too bad for both of us. I was hoping he would make it as least as far as Novi.

The question made me laugh . . . do you mean can a woman be ordained or do you mean can an ordainded priest become a woman? (i.e. sex change) I’d have to vote no on that one!! —KCT

Dear CurlyD -

No Sir, a Catholic priest cannot be a woman - but now and then in my time, I’ve…um…er…come across a few men that have made me ponder, yer see: “I wonder what on earth turns a man into a woman?”😃 …if…um…that will answer ya question. Nudge Nudge, Wink, Wink!

A women can be a priest but the church does not allow it at this time. There is nothing biological that prevents a women from performing priestly duties. I realize I’m playing with sematics here but I just wanted to point that out 😉 it’s really all about tradition, though theologically based, it is a theology sprung from gender oppressive times.

At this point, I believe the Pope banned this topic from even being put on the table for discussion. So, this Catholic girl will faithfully follow the Church and keep my trap closed hehehe. However, I think I can talk about married priests which I think they should be able to!! but don’t hate me for that comment 🙂

NO! There is no “at this time” about it. It is a matter of doctrine which cannot ever be changed.

Sorry, I am being reassigned also. They are sending me away to school. Remedial education I guess.

anam,
I think you should read what the Church actually has said. The issue is dead. The deposit of faith does not change. Given what has happened with the Anglicans we can rejoice in that fact. I suggest you read Ordinatio Sacerdotalis and the encyclical on The Dignity of Women.

from here: ewtn.com/library/PAPALDOC/JP2ORDIN.HTM

You can get it on the vatican site, but it is REALLY SLOW atm.

The pertinent paragraph:

“Wherefore, in order that all doubt may be removed regarding a matter of great importance, a matter which pertains to the Church’s divine constitution itself, in virtue of my ministry of confirming the brethren (cf. 22:32) I declare that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church’s faithful.”

I was under the impression this was infallible?

i would also strongly contend with the notion that this doctrine is based on outmoded ‘gender oppressive’ theology…

What do you disagree with? that it is outmoded or that it is gender oppressive? not sure what your saying here Jeff.

The preisthood is not gender oppressive.

Thank you cest, for the reading suggestions. I was merely pointed out that women would be fully capable not necessarily arguing that they should be Priests. However the encyclical ignores the fact that Jesus had to choose men because women of that time would not be allowed the access necessary to deliver his message. Again as it was clearly stated this subject is not up for debate at this time 😉

Personally, I’m very with men being and don’t have a real big issue with it 🙂

Jesus chose all men as his disciples. The priest is the father of the local church and the Pope is the father of the Catholic church. What part don’t people get?
