I can’t help but notice, Doc, that while you ‘don’t accept’ what we say, you have given us absolutely nothing but your ‘say-so’ as ‘supports’ for your ‘non-acceptance.’

Why is that? Surely you have ‘support’ for your premises and your deductions and your reasons. Why not state them? If you don’t find our arguments compelling, what then are **yours **through which you came to **your conclusions? **

Enlighten us, if you will.
Yes, exactly. 👍

I am analysing the arguments from a formal philosophical standpoint. Have I argued for a particular stance on this thread? I don’t think I have, but if I have by all means address my the validity of my arguments and my premises.

Please go ahead 🙂
That’s the point - all you’ve done is criticize me for not putting forward an argument that convinces you not to abort your child.

Where is your argument that shows how it is perfectly fine for you to kill your (or my) child any time you feel like it? 🤷

jmcrae, you’re doing it again- constructing quite outrageous straw man arguments:(

Some people (not that I’m accusing anyone) frequent these types of threads and their contributions are constant ‘shut downs’ of what people say in pithy little snips of "I don’t accept it’, "that’s circular’, “strawman” , “you’re not convincing”, etc. --while said person then does not then have to do a thing to make a support for his position.. They think it’s an easy way to try to come across as knowledgeable and to put themselves in the position where **we **have to jump through hoops to satisfy all their (non-articulated, fluid and continually increasing) caveats.

We’re all too busy to play games with people like that who only wants to **dismiss, not discuss. **I hope the good doctor is **not **a person like that so I’m waiting to see his arguments.

Me, too. 🤷

So far, I have never seen any kind of an argument (philosophical or otherwise) that shows that abortion is good for society, and permitted by Christ.

jmcrae, if you don’t want to have a philosophical discussion, why are you persisting with this?

I’m not here for some sort of antler-rattling ego-driven ding-dong, and I’ve noticed several times you’ve tried to personalise the debate

sorry but I’m not biting:thumbsup:

People seem to be playing games with me at times, but I’m totally open about my agenda. I am interesting in formal arguments and part of that is rejecting arguments:shrug:

Can you define what you mean by a “philosophical discussion”? I have brought in the Scriptures and I have discussed the good of society.

How am I “personalizing the debate”? You are taking the pro-abortion position, are you not? Hello, I am responding to the pro-abortion position.
sorry but I’m not biting 👍
You’re also not setting out your premises and your arguments. 🙂

And this, of course, is such a totally **impersonal **and ‘rational’ type of statement on your part, Doc.

Yep, "Antler-rattling, ego-driven-ding-dong’ is exactly the type of philosophical and rational argumentative statement that I expect to see in a real, ‘impersonal’ ‘discussion.’🤷

Yes, this thread has got diverted.
When someone posts something that interests me enough to respond, I will.
I am not going to bang my head against a wall, no matter how much people try and provoke a response.

Come back anytime . . .I certainly would like to see a nice formal philosophical argument in support of the position you uphold. I’ve never really seen anybody who has been able to set forth a convincing argument.

All right. Give me an example of what you are talking about, by presenting a formal philosophical argument from your side of the debate. 🙂
It’s not going to happen because I’m not convinced you seriously want to have a philosophical debate based on past form.

You obviously haven’t done much moral philosophy then!
I am interested as to what you believe my position is.

Hey, I have an idea. How about you set out your position, and then we could know what it is. 😃

My position is more based on intuition than formal philosophical reasoning. I have posted it elsewhere on this forum in fact. I believe there are some situations where abortion is morally acceptable.
