Abortion does not un rape a girl, it violates her all over again.

I dont see any organizations supported by the RC church in my community if a girl is raped and gets pregnant…so who will pay for the girl (who may also be a child) to receive the counselling she will need to go through the pregnancy (a life changing event) while also coping with rape ( most likely by a family member or trusted friend). Rape isnt something you just get over.
Google the name of your city and state plus “Catholic Diocese” Your Diocese has a pro life office as well as Catholic Charities who have counseling available now.

Google the name of your city plus “Crisis Pregnancy Center”

There are resources to help all mothers and children.

They did not choose to become pregnant, they are just innocent victims…Is it okay for a rapped girl to have an abortion?
Why ask the question?

Studies show that this is very rare and, yet, it has open the door to abortion on demand at taxpayers expense.

Just asking the question propagates a myth that women who are raped want an abortion, this is not the case. A majority of women who are raped do not want an abortion and many who did at the time, are suffering now and speaking out. A good resource can be found here: Victims and Victors - Speaking Out About Their Pregnancies, Abortions, and Children Resulting from Sexual Assault. afterabortion.org/Victims/index.htm. The testamonies on this site can say it better than I can: www.afterabortion.org.

Abortion is not a treatment for rape, it only adds a new trauma to one that has already taken place. It’s heart-wrenching to read someone who wrote that an 11-12 year girl should be allowed to have an abortion. Abortion never improves mental health issues and the psychological damage of abortion, on top of the trauma of rape, has been shown to cause more problem for women, not less. With rape, there is no guilt, with abortion there is always guilt. It compounds things, not fixes them.

What gives us the right to kill a baby who wasn’t asked to be born? Where is the justice for the child? Who are we to choose to end something that God has already chosen to allow?

From a National Review article: “Tell me,” Wendell Goler asked Senator Sam Brownback during Tuesday’s Republican presidential debate, “Since you’ve opposed abortion in every instance except to save the life of the mother, how would you explain to a rape victim . . . why her trauma should be compounded by carrying the child to term?” Great article here:

The Catholic Church supports many pro-life organizations, they are not all identified as Catholic. Our crisis pregnancy centers are well-supported by the Church, as is our local, phenominal maternity home and transitional home. Help is there, but we all need to do more.

These are very tough issues, but to see Catholics post that this is ok makes me mourn, for the women, and for the babies.

I’ve wondered if the next scientist to cure cancer was aborted by a confused woman who needed help to understand what she was about to do. Or needed practical help to carry on with the birth.

Makes you think.

Yes of course they can…anyone can abort?

Are you asking if the Catholic church allows it in cases of rape…

I dont know if its covered in the Catecism.

I do know what I would say on a personal level…but nobody here would understand…
I feel sick to my stomach just thinking about having an abortion myself…and although I have had some serious mental health issues in my past…including suicide attempts because of being raped by an older brother (7 yrs older), I do know that if I had to go through with a pregnancy at the age of say 13 (I was younger when I was raped, but not able to get pregnant) then I probably just would have committed suicide…

ANYONE WHO JUDGES A GIRL OR WOMAN WHO GETS AN ABORTION AFTER BEING RAPED (possibly even by her father or brother)WILL RECEIVE THE SAME KIND OF JUDGEMENT ON THEM THAT THEY PASSED ON…

THis is coming from someone who has been raped as a child by a brother…and is still living to tell about it…but if I had been old enough to get pregnant, my parents probably would have had me have an abortion as, some girls to get their periods as young as 11, and it can be life threatening for them to have a child…not just physically either

Just my opinion-
The CCC is quite clear:

Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to live (CCC 2270)

Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law…(CCC 2271)

Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The "A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententias, by the very commission of the offense, and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law. The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society. (CCC 2272)

There is more and the whole section should be read. "Latae sententias" means a given, laid-down sentence.

BTW, this post is coming from a person who should have been aborted, according to my mother’s physician, and who was told by my physician to abort my own child. Talk about life-threatening!! Some of you reading this probably agree that I should be dead and that my child should be dead. I respectfully disagree.

I have walked in very similar shoes. This is not a judgment, but a question. If someone is already suffering from poor mental health, how could the realization that one has taken an innocent life improve the mental health of that person? It just adds one more torment to an already troubled individual. It is hard to see the light in the darkness. Adding to the darkness only serves to put the light farther away. Abortion would have been my undoing. I have seen the women who have the courage to carry “I regret my abortion” signs in Washington. They are a great witness to the healing that can take place. Too many women never find that healing, and feel they don’t deserve it.

Help is there for those who suffer from mental illnesses. You are right about this - the physical, is generally easier to detect, and, therefore, treat. Take, for example, a battered spouse. The physical injuries will heal long before the mental and emotional damage. Someone without a good support system, which is usually the case in such situations, is really at a disadvantage, and is usually good at hiding what is really going on inside. It is not always a case of being “tossed aside,” but, because of shame and guilt, not wanting others to even be aware that there are mental issues that need to be addressed. Sadly, often, mental illnesses carry a stigma. Too many who need help don’t seek it for that reason. Post-abortive women often fall into that category, too. I pray that all would seek the help they need. Only God really knows what those needs are.
Its fine to have your own opinions about abortion, but like I said ONLY GOD can judge a woman’s heart…so to all you who judge people…especially without knowing their situation…then you shall too be judged as you have judged…
Even my Bishop said in a recent homily that these woman are often victims too…and has Christ’s compassion

It is** not** our place to judge. God’s compassion and His mercy are great.I just hate to think of women and their babies being further victimized. This is not a judgment, only a concern. Again, I offer my prayers.

I don’t see Linda judging anyone. Of course only God can judge us for only He knows everything in our hearts - more than even we know.

I haven’t seen anything but compassion in this thread. I haven’t seen anyone say that the raped girl is anything but a victim.

I do see you judging the very people you say are judging.

You speak about your Bishop. I would suggest that if he, or your priest, is someone whose counsel you trust. you make an appointment to speak with him, and keep that appointment. May you come to find some peace and healing in the compassion Christ has to give. He is the Great Physician.

God bless

Full acolades to you for writing this powerful piece. Very well said, :clapping:

Yes…that is great! But if you suffer from mental illness in this society, you are tossed aside. You only get help if you suffer from physical threats…

I am only saying…dont judge another before you have walked a mile in their shoes and remember,…not everyone has good mental health.
I am unsure as to what you got out of my post? I AM NOT JUDGING, I HAVE WALKED A MILE IN YOUR SHOES, THROUGH RAPE, THROUGH DEAD BABIES, AND THROUGH BAD MENTAL HEALTH. It is by the grace of God that any person could make it through any situation even close to this.
It is because I have suffered all of this that I can say that both through the teaching of the church, and personal experience, that an abortion will only add to the pain that is felt, Will only make an already unstable person want to take their own life.
Having life within, gives a women the NEED to LIVE!
Prayers for all that are living in a room that they think is empty, and to those who are waiting to help them.

I watched an episode of Oprah. She had a guest on her show that had been raped and had become pregnant because of the incident. Oprah asked her why she decided to keep the baby.

Her answer inspired me.

She responded that the baby was something good that resulted because of something bad that had happened to her. The baby was God’s gift to her, His apology to her for what she had experienced. She does not see the baby as a rapist’s bastard. She shes the baby as a gift to her.

If my father raped you, would that make it okay for you to kill me?

Your Bishop is absolutely right - He said, “these women are victims TOO.” Get it? The baby is also a victim of the Crime. No one would suggest that the mother should die for being raped, why should anyone suggest that the baby should die for being a victim of rape?

Your Bishop is a very wise man in saying that these women have Christ’s compassion just as all victims of crime do. In this case God Loves the woman AND the baby AND the family of the woman. God even Loves, and weeps for, the rapist.

Love them All

Peace
James

People are not judging you personally when they state clear Church teaching. In fact, everyone has emphasized that the women are indeed victims too, and have nothing but love and concern for them.

But Christ’s compassion does not mean that He will sanction the death of an innocent child because somebody’s human insight (which is fallible) ‘feels’ that only in this way will the mother ‘live’ or ‘retain her sanity.’ Do you think that those of us who stand firm haven’t faced this ourselves, in our own families? Then you’d think wrongly. It is precisely because some of us have indeed faced these situations that we know that the Church’s teachings are true, and the world’s, wrapped in a mantle of ‘compassion’, are false.

Morality isn’t relative. We can’t say that the situation for Miss A somehow makes abortion morally permissible for her, while not for Mrs. B, and that for Ms. C it’s not only permissible but outright demanded! No, if abortion is murder (and it is), it is murder whether or not the infant was conceived as a result of rape, or a result of loving marital embrace; whether the infant is being born to a married or unmarried woman; whether the infant’s mother is young or old, rich or poor, black or white. . . There is absolutely nothing that can, in any way, justify the abortion of a child in the womb who is totally innocent and helpless. That is not being ‘harsh’, it’s being truthful. Of course, we must try to do everything possible to help the equally innocent mother who has been violated, but that help cannot involve killing the infant.

It would be an immoral, but understandable choice.
I beg to differ. It would be an immoral, un-understandable (non-understandable?), unethical, and WRONG choice for a Catholic and for anyone else. Abortion is murder. Every human being deserves protection, no matter what stage of life they are at, whether it be embryo, fetus, infant, child, adult, elderly…Sanctity of human life is a universal concept and is subject to universal law (which is God’s law).

If a girl or woman’s life or health is put at great risk …why does the unborn baby’s life come first? Allowing the mother to die is ok?

One more thing…if you live in a rural community…there are no resources, transitional housing etc.
