My non-Catholic friend in currently enrolled in RCIA. She is also going through pre-Cana with her Catholic fiance. A Catholic priest told her that she can receive Holy Communion, since she is a baptized Christian, and is currenly enrolled in RCIA.

Is this correct? I was always my understanding that a non-Catholic baptized Christian must complete RCIA before being allowed to receive Communion.

Sincerely,

Mike Mueller

Dear Mike,

The priest who gave your friend that information acted irresponsibly. Being a part of an RCIA program does not constitute a commitment to the Catholic faith, but only a commitment to study it. Since she is already baptized, when she completes the RCIA she then must make a good Confession. THEN she makes a public profession of faith and receives the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. First things first!
