Can Satan take away gifts we were born with?

The devil is only allowed what God allows him to do.

God blessed you with your gifts for a reason, do not fret that they will be taken away!

No, but Satan can tempt us to giving away what God has given us.

Intelligence? No. I’m guessing you mean something else, though. “The behavior of an intelligent person”, maybe?

I talked with a friend today and told him about a girl that rejected me and I said that the reason she did this to me is because I am ugly. And he told me that I may not look like a model, but at least I am very intelligent. And I thought that I wasn’t thankful for my gifts and wanted more. That’s why I was scared Satan can take them from me.

Yes, if you waste your gifts and talents , if you dont grow you will pay dearly for this later, and the bill will shock you.
Your unused gifts will be transformed to a bancrupt mockery and miserability.
Some unexpected fellow who was the last will be the first , and you can be the last, and you can realize that truth even before the judgement day.

We can use sport as an example.
As a wrestler ,i do also fitness and running. i was running 90 minutes 3 or 4 times a week, during all summer and had a good breath for my age, but later i have got a trauma , and one month i didnt run.
I can feel it already, just 1 month of missed trainings and running and it reflects on my results immidiately.
In spititual life the same as in sport competition, or you grow and getting much stronger, or you miss the training hours and getting weaker.

Good analogy.

St. Paul loved using sports analogies as well, so you’re in good company.

For example, can Satan take someone’s intelligence?
Yes. A disease could infect our brains which would make us lose our intelligence. To be honest, I can’t imagine many gifts which can’t be lost. Most are tied to our corporeality in some respect. Satan has temporary dominion, so he can do all sorts of damage.

If you think Lucifer can only do what God ‘allows’ him to do, you are in for a very, very rude awakening one day.

He has almost infinite reach in this world. Which is why it’s such a fallen mess.

Can he take your intelligence? Sure. Most of the time you have to be complacent and hand it over. Sometimes however, its less of your choice than you think. Fortunately actual exorcism is rare now. Perhaps even myth worthy in 2017.

Allows as in allowed to do it, similar to any created being.
Passive will, as opposed to active.
God doesn’t want us to sin, for instance, but we are “allowed” it.
The Bible says God never allows us to be tempted beyond our ability, for instance.

When Adam and Eve fell, they ceded control over our bodies to Satan. The devil has power in this world, however; God limits his efforts. Satan is like a vicious dog on a leash. If allowed to go unchecked, he would destroy the world.

Exorcism is rare, but becoming more common. The Church has been adding exorcists to keep up with demand. It’s no where near a myth.

Yes, including any demon.
I have heard it said many times that Satan can only do what God allows. Since the same is true for all created beings, isn’t the statement kind of trivial?

No. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we are never tried more than we can handle.

That is a nice sentiment, but, it is not Church teaching.

The Scriptures say we will not be tempted where there is no way to escape that temptation, so, the old “I had no choice but to sin!” is always a lie.

It is just that sometimes people confuse the two, they are different. Being tried and being tempted can be two different things.

We are born with intellect and will. Satan cannot take those away. He does have dominion over our bodies and can effect things such as knowledge.
