Can single women (or men..) adopt?

Does anyone know if the church has a position on single persons adopting? I’m talking about someone who will never get married…so in other words, they are knowingly and purposefully bringing the child into a family with only one parent. Does the church allow this?

A homosexual couple is choosing to live a sinful lifestyle that goes against the teachings of Christ. It isn’t sinful to be single. I’m not sure the two situations can be compared as apples to apples.

The Church does not have a teaching on this topic at all. There is nothing inherently immoral about a single person adopting.

in some cases, for an older child especially who may have been abused in some way, it may be preferably to come to only one parent, but that parent should still have a support network.

Immoral, no. But is there value in having parental role models of both sexes?

If not, then there is no reason for the government to ban gay adoption. If the answer is yes, but it is better that a single adoptive parent is better than a child staying in foster care, then why not allow two adoptive parents of the same sex? From the point of view of the Church it is immoral, but from a secular point of view it may actually be better (two people to do the work of one).
