Can somebody explain to me what is going on in this Christian video?

everytime I went to read the book I couldnt bring myself to do it. I guess Id like to say the “jurys out” on Benny for me, but I suspect hes not what we think him to be. I dont know if I can say its the work of satan, Id have to look at it more closely.

The whole subject is on that shelf for me, Im sure theres healings but I think those healed dont speak about it. And perhaps God doesnt want healings on tv so He doenst let them last, Dont know for sure, Im trying to be fair, although I look at these things with a real skeptical eye.

But if hes made a prophecy and its not true, Im there with my pail just kidding, Im not tossing the first one, seen where that went.

ps to Hellisreal yea this is another catagory with the other in my hang ups It has to do with my previous beliefs and things of “superstious” natures I need to stay away from. Its hard when stuff comes in in christian contexts, healing, signs, wonders etc. I did some surfing last nite will pm ya later.

I went to a pentacostal church a few years ago to find healing for my cancer. I went forward and when the pastor came to me he asked me what I wanted healing for. I told him breast cancer. He put his hands on my head and began praying for me and trying to PUSH ME DOWN. Everyone else before me had fallen (was slain in the spirit) but I refused to be pushed over. If the Holy Spirit wanted to knock me down I’m sure there is little I could’ve done to fight Him. But no man was going to push me over and then tell me the Holy Spirit did.
I still don’t know about the healing part. I had stage 4 cancer at the time and eventually, with 6 more months of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation it went into remission. It’s been in remission for 2 years now.

Nothing happened. I may have lost my balance but nothing else.

Now in all fairness it is possible that because I wasn’t as close to God as I am now (I was a teenager at the time) that maybe I wasn’t ready to receive the Holy Spirit in such an intense manner. He obviously knew that he was a false prophet, because he was pushing you. The real ones just barely touch you - no pushing at all.

I had this happen to me a few weeks ago, when I was recovering from a head injury. There is a charismatic guy at my parish, and when I mentioned to him that I had a head injury, he offered to pray over me. He didn’t pray out loud - he just stood facing me, put his fingertips very gently on the top of my head, and prayed silently with his eyes closed.

All of a sudden, I just felt enveloped in a tangible cloud of love, and I just relaxed into it - normally I am terrified of falling, and even more so after having experienced a head injury, but I felt so peaceful and relaxed - when I started to go down, he called someone over to catch me, and the person caught me and laid me down on the floor - I didn’t feel anything. I knew where I was, but at the same time, I was caught up in a vision of the Trinity. I laid there until the vision was completed, and then I found that my whole body was very weak, so I continued to lay there until my strength came back, and then I just walked home from there. My headache was completely gone.

I think it’s a mockery of the Holy Spirit and blasphemy, plain and simple. Any Catholic here go into seizures on the floor when recieving the Holy Spirit at Confirmation(Chrismation)?

I used to think it was FAKE…but I am now convinced it is Satan.

I had already been to the hospital. I was recovering from the head injury; I hadn’t just had it at that moment.

People at my parish also call 911 if there is an actual emergency taking place. This took place after I had received medical treatment.

If you went down or need to be “caught” you would have been strapped to a guerney and taken to the hospital REGARDLESS of the fact you had been to the hospital.

at that chrasmatic church I went to I asked my friend about the fabric. Its for “modesty” for women in dresses and also if one is laying on the floor it is just comforting or there could be a draft. basically said its only pratical.

I was looking for something I had seen a while back on NBC News but couldn’t find the archive link. They had hidden cameras following Mr. Hinn around and documented all the wealth and the scams to get people to pay for his “ministry.” His “ministry” included staying in thousand dollar suites at posh resorts either on the way to or on the way back and declaring it part of his “ministry” expenses, they filmed his $8.5 million home, his numerous luxury cars - among alot of other things.

This guy is nothing but a scam artist. There have been people on this thread who said they liked him or that he had been to their country to do “healings.” These are not healings, they are staged or at least nothing more than people wanting so badly to be healed that they unwittingly cooperate with this lunatic.

Please, people, do not give anything to this man. He will truly have to answer for all the damage he is doing to the Body of Christ.

I worked First Aid as an EMT at a Faith Healing Convention back in the 80’s in CA and basically we were just there to make sure no one fell and hurt themselves or needed any other First Aid, we did not interfere in the proceedings. I do not know what the insurance was like for the building they rented—but we did not automatically strap them to a gurney and haul them away. The only time any medical personnel would take someone against their will would be if they had life-threatening injuries or a condition that might indicate mental incapacity. Even tho it looks crazy, ‘faith’ is not a mental incapacity in this country—yet.

I can’t agree if this is referring to what jmcrae described. With Benny Hinn, yes, I agree, that is just too whacked-out.

I’ve never had that experience myself, though I can’t say I wouldn’t welcome it! It sounds wonderful.

In the larger view, I think we should be careful about limiting God by saying what he will or will not do. There is plenty of very odd manifestation of God in the world that has been looked upon favorably by the Church. Stigmata being one example among many. Incorruption of saints’ bodies another. I think God has his ways, and they often seem odd to us, either because he wants them to be hard to swallow, or because we just can’t see things the way God sees things.

Now, back to my regularly scheduled scepticism.

limiting God is a wrong thing, you are right. I wonder about having been around “back in the day” and seen a blind man healed, or a demon come out of someone, it was interesting to say the least.

Perhaps we need to think more on these things and how they work. These shaking on the floor seems tame compared to.

Perhaps we are not as advanced in the spiritual area as our predessors. ??

Totally with you on that Maria, Ive tried to be “fair” on Benny but he bugs me. And my skeptic comes out full force.

Christ said you would know them by their fruit. And some seems good, But the whole bowl seems rotten.

I don’t see how his post could be forbidden Rome has not condemned the charasmatic movement. I also haven’t notice CA being particularly anti-charasmatic. I’m not a fan of the charasmatic movement but I don’t think anything jmcrae said was out of place.

Hmmmmm, well the charismatic movement came out of protestant pentecostalism, and didn’t exist in Catholicism until the past few decades. People point to Scripture and say “Look! Charisms, tongues! This must be exactly what the charismatics are doing now, we just forgot about it for 2,000 years!” That’s certainly pure speculation, not to mention there’s no part of Eastern Christianity that falls over and has siezures all over the floor… hmmmm, seems like a good enough reason not to be involved with it. I’m aware of no infallible declarations in favor of it, outside that even Popes can be wrong. Bishops aren’t forbidding a whole heck of a lot these days either, it’s no wonder it’s spreading.
