I read the other day that Benedict said “In the 1970s, pedophilia was theorized as something fully in conformity with man and even with children” to why the abuses are going on today.

Now I know the media has an ever-present anti-Catholic way about them, so they probably are misquoting what he meant or something.

I’m just wondering why he thinks it was in conformity in the 1970s? I never got that impression at all. I don’t know of any mainstream group that considered it OK, even in the 1970s.

Can someone clarify this for me?

Here’s the link I got it from

yes they basically said the opposite of what he was trying to say, lol…

I’m not familiar with the quote, but if the pope said it, than he is not entirely wrong. For instance, in Holland, in the 1970’s, there was a Senator who openly advocated sexual contact between minors and between minors and adults. He also played a important role in realizing a law which lowered the permitted age for homosexual contact from 21 to 16, the same as for heterosexual contact.
His views, although frowned upon by most, didn’t cause near as much controversy as they would have in this time.
