I have noticed for the past few years that when certain people genuflect and make the sign of the cross, they kiss their thumb? I asked my wife why she does this, and she doesn’t even know what I’m talking about. Can somebody please explain this to me???

It’s a custom that was widely used in Mexico when religious items were forbidden. The thumb and first finger are put in a shape like a cross (thumb up, first finger pointing to the left) and then this “cross” is kissed after the genuflection. It’s a sign of reverence.

That makes sense, thank you.
