Can someone explain this to me

Okay, I am having a serious brain fart. :o
Can’t say for sure because we don’t have the context…
but
A couple of observations: people that play the “judge away” “don’t judge me” “you’re being too judgmental” or “Christians aren’t supposed to judge” cards are trying to not explain something for which there is no reasonable explanation.

Or, they are saying, I don’t give a flying flip what you think".

Either way, it’s a copout and an abrupt end to dialog.

I agree - rather dumb and rather disturbing. I thought to myself when I read it that maybe she was misquoted. It’s one thing to admit your mistake and vow not the make the same/similar mistakes again, but “to stand by them”? Gosh. It’s like saying “So I did. So what? Deal with it. I had the guts to do it.”

I bring this up because it was posted another site I visit (no one blinked an eye to it). What’s disturbing is that she seems a bit sociopathic, at least from my observations. But then again her fans say she’s just “being real & courageous” which, in their minds, is something to champion. “Being real & courageous.” I don’t champion that type of “real” and question that type of “courage.”

@ clare: It was just a young woman, in the spotlight, dealing with people having opinions on her - as an actor and as a person. She’s probably the most known, yet the most infamous, young celebrity in the US. Given some thought and your interpretations of it, it seems you’re accurate in what she’s saying. It’s too bad, really. “Either way, it’s a copout and an abrupt end to dialog.” It is, and that’s sad.

I don’t know if I’d call Kristen Stewart “the most known … young celebrity in the U.S.” 😛

I don’t know the context and don’t really care that much (I just googled the phrase to find out who said it). But I’d imagine it is just her way of saying she is living her life without regrets and she’s not going to let the critics get her down. It’s probably not the best way to articulate such a sentiment, but then we’re not all that articulate at all times.

Obviously, we should be sorry for our sins, but I can understand not wanting to be forever bogged down by them. For us Catholics, that is what Confession is for. Not that we have to “stand by every mistake”, but we can confess them and be free of them. If someone doesn’t have a Christian faith, then they have to come up with some other way to make peace with the things they have done that they know are “mistakes.”

Really, how else would a celebrity get through the day if they didn’t adopt some form of this attitude? You have people constantly paying attention to you and criticizing anything and everything you do and wear. I can understand needing to be comfortable with even one’s mistakes else they spiral into depression.

OK, Midwest & Joe…

Now that I know who it is…( my first thought was Miley, LOL)
I reiterate by post about these utterances, but I will tell you where they come from.
(I have daughters…and am familiar with the drama of the culture) 😛

This girl had the boyfriend that every 15 yr. old WANTED. Desperately, obsessively…The way young girls tend to do…
and he was very much in love with her. She was considered to be the luckiest girl alive to that age group. (disordered, I know…bear with me)
And she cheated on him. After that became very public…was on the cover of People and all the other rags…this girl spent the next several months dodging tabloids, paparazzi, hate mail, vicious FB posts, tweets. etc. This girl was vilified by her fans.

Not any excuses here…but the reality of her life.
She was dumb…and people came out of the woodwork to hate her.
I suppose now, she hates everyone.
I suppose she’s quite tired of her “story” telling her “story” explaining her “story”.

A real cautionary tale for every teenage girl. And boy.
Don’t play house before you’re ready…and do so in a real commitment of a real marriage.

I’m sure she’s not going to heal any time soon. She needs a serious re-boot of her life.
But the bottom line is that our daughters and sons are reading this stuff…trying to emulate these actresses and singers…and then wonder why their lives get all messed up.

This is where a good Youth Ministry team is critical. Never fear though, there are groups that educate the youth on the pitfalls of celebrity, obsession with appearances, and premarital sex. God protect our children.
Can I get an AMEN???

:amen:

Oh yeah, the real Twilight saga. 😛 I forgot about that. I’m sure she’s been “hated on” more than her fair share. Her comment makes more sense in that light.

Yes. We also need to teach our youth that hating on people whether they are celebrities or not is harmful and wrong.

@Empther…no worries. Go back to your regularly scheduled programming…😃

Haven’t got a chance to respond to my old threads for a while (I apologize of the resurrection of this gives some people the ), but since I have time now …

I’m not that familiar with the vilification she received by her fans and the “woodwork” people, though I am aware that papz and tabloids made a deal out of it, and I bet comboxes on tabloid sties and places like yahoo and whatever were flooded. I know she has a group of fans that are ‘dedicated’ to her, so I feel it’s the case of fans being more of Pattinson’s fans than hers – that really were heated against her. (Again, not sure if she actually received threats on twitter or facebook or in her PO box.) Then again I feel that it’s more of the “crazy” Twilight movie fans doing it than some random non-fan doing the threats (if there were any). Correct me if I’m wrong.

Yes, I could imagine how tricky it would be able to forgive yourself, at least gain a firm footing on the road to forgiveness and humility, if one is secular.

Ah, the old “eyes are watching me all the time!”; I always found this a bit of weak reasoning. To play devil’s advocate many popular celebrities/entertainers have boat loads of fans, or at least the ones they have are quite zealous, filled with enthusiasm. I think the whole idea of “judgmental pricks” or “haters” out there, somewhere, is more of a paranoia in the entertainers mind. Good will and admiration travels much quicker in the land of acting than bad from those who are “nobodies.” If any harsh negativity is received, in spades, something must’ve happened that one drops in the “respect” column.

Sure, there are people who are going to judge negatively (on what you wear and how you look & talk) - but that’s kind of the territory of being a known person. I’m not advocating for vilification or death threats, or anything like that, all I’m saying is there is bound to more admiration, respect and awe given towards a known actor – whether that’s on set or by their fans through fansites, fans asking for autographs and selfies at red carpet events etc.
