Hello everyone!

I recently became an alter server for my parish for the weekday Mass. The problem is, I’m still unsure of just about everything within the church. When the trainer, who is also an alter server, asks me to grab something, I feel dumb for not knowing what she’s talking about. I’ve tried searching the web for the proper names for each item (chalice, corporal, etc.), but I don’ think I’m wording my search properly. Can anyone point me in the direction of information for this? Thank you in advance! God Bless!

Dear RyanCV,

I have found this very helpful:

sanctamissa.org/en/serving/

and even though you’re not a sacristan, this can be very helpful in understanding all of the items in use during the mass:

sanctamissa.org/en/sacristy/

If you have a little extra money or know of someone who could sponsor you, you might consider:

sanctamissa.org/workshops/for-laity/overview.html

If you have no way of paying, I would contact the head of the order. He is a VERY generous man, whose sole goal is to spread the beauty and love of the liturgy, in all it’s forms. He might be able to assist you.

Hope that helps.🙂

HCC,

Thank you very much. I’m diving right into everything on all three sites. Thanks again!
