Hi CAFers, what is that scripture that talks about peoiple wasting there time learnign and learning? A real trap of the devil for some. Thanks

2Ti 3:1 ¶ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Thanks everyone and sorry about the grammer and typos! I was rushing, and being distracted at the same time. I like the Bible Topics site - a great find. I may have been thinking of 2 Timothy 3:7. I will read Ps.131 before I go to bed.

I was thinking particularly about those intelligent and open minds who get trapped into learning spirit-guide stuff of the New Age, - works of automatic writing sourced in demons disguised as angels of light, who write works such as A Course in Miracles. And other sources - there are a plethera of them. Their endless teachings can really tickle the mind and make people think they are in on some very special secrets of the universe.

Please pray for me for God’s guidance and wisdom as I begin my effort to communicate these truths to a longtime friend. Also that her heart would open to Jesus: the Way, the Truth and the Light, Who is Love. .

satan likes to keep you looking for that hidden truth rather than love on people

This reminds me of some of my Athiestic friends. They get degree after degree but do not use them (Jobs).

Hi CAFers, what is that scripture that talks about peoiple wasting there time learnign and learning?
There aren’t any. If you read the sections given then you see that none of those verses cited say anything about learning much less learning being bad.

However 2 TImothy does recommend Careful study: 2 Tim 2:15 (DRB) Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed.

or 2 Tim 2:15 (KJV) Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,

Please be careful who you are listening to.

2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

“Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.” (1st Cor. 3:18-20)

There is no bible verse teaching that learning is a trap, on the contrary, ignorance is the trap as people learn fictional truths. But everything in the bible is the word of God.

Ps 119:99-104 I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts. I have restrained my feet from every evil way, that I may keep Your word. I have not departed from Your judgments, for You Yourself have taught me. How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.

Acts 17:11 These were more fair minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

1 Ptr 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.

1Tim 4:6-7 If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed. But reject profane and old wives fables, and exercise yourself rather to godlines

2Tim 3:14-17 But as for you, continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2Tim 4:2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

These verses teach us that the we can discern between that foolish man, who is wise in the world and we can know he is foolish, as well as his teachings, because they are not in harmony with the bible. The bible is not for fools, it is not to keep on your bookshelf, it is not to be looked at as a partial truth, it is the WHOLE COMPLETE TRUTH.

When a man presumes to teach you about God, you can discern if he is wise or foolish just based on his doctrine.

Is that mans doctrine in harmony with the teaching of the bible? if not then it is a fairy tale, it is fiction and foolish. You can discern a good teacher from a fool based on his understanding of the bible. His understanding may be more than you yours, and so it may sound credible, yet you should be able to discern if it is biblical or a fiction created by the logic of his brain.

Be like the faithful Boreans:
Acts 17:11 These were more fair minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

The bible is the book of Life, and it is truth and it is knowledge and power. Nothing foolish about it, ignorance of this fact is what the bible teaches, is the downfall of that man, as that man has thereby created his own salvation plan based on his own God. That man who creates his own God based on his own terms is a fool.

Continue in the word of God, because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

God Bless

Did you mean this from Ecclesiastes Chapter 1: 7 And I have given my heart to know prudence, and learning, and errors, and folly: and I have perceived that in these also there was labour, and vexation of spirit, 18 Because In much wisdom there is much indignation: and he that addeth knowledge, addeth also labour.

Ecc 1:18 For in much wisdom [is] much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Tim 2:15 (KJV) Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,

What Paul is talking about in 3:7 is people who don’t truely learn and thus never come to a knowledge of the truth. We must “Study to show thyself approved unto God”
