Can someone tell me why Jesus died?

You sound like a Protestant. I have heard some Protestants proclaim that as long as one believes in Jesus, one can do whatever he likes, including killing and adultery, and still goes to heaven. Because “once saved, always saved”. In other words, one can use baptism and believe in Jesus as a license to commit crimes and sins and it does not matter.
If such a view is not an insult to our Lord’s Passion, what is? Remember Satan believes in Jesus too.

Jesus died for our sins so the gap between God and man is bridged over. It does not mean as long as the bridge is there, we can be lawless and ignore our conscience. James said faith without work is dead. Satan has faith in Jesus too. God said we ought to be holy since our Heavenly Father is holy. To be holy means to live without sin. It is black and white in the Bible.

Through Jesus’ command to His apostles, He said, “…whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them. Whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.” He was NOT speaking about Baptism in this anointing of His apostles…it was for the sins that followed.

After our Baptism the sins we commit are forgiven only through repentance.

Judge Robert Bork (remember him?) was married to a Catholic woman (still is) for years; Bork was NOT a Catholic. He converted to Catholicism recently and was Baptized into the Church and ALL of his sins were forgiven up to that point in time.I think it was on EWTN, not certain, as a guest he remarked how cleansing Baptism is and how ALL of his sins were forgiven not only Original Sin but all the sins of his entire life.

He still has to Confess any newly committed sins however.That is why Jesus shed His precious blood for us…so that our sins committed AFTER Baptism would be forgiven.

The ongoing “unbloody sacrifice of Christ on the Cross (the Mass)” is the catalyst that empowers the authority of His priests to forgive sins.

We are a fallen race and continue to fall because of our human nature. Should we die unrepentant and unremorseful for the sins committed AFTER Baptism we risk losing seeing God Face-to-face.

Man and God use to see each other face to face-First man chose to sin-breaking that relationship and ending eternal life for man.
God promised to give man a way to repair the damage and regain that relationship.

God’s only begotten Son Jesus is that way.
God chose the method of salvation-
God knew before creating man that man would would fail-bringing sin and death into the world.
Jesus suffered and died to show us how God desires that we make reparation for all the damage that sin has ravaged in this world.
We must all live our lives with quiet dignity and strive to constantly help our fellow man with all we have-our time, talent and treasure.
Pray with all your heart for all men to achieve salvation. Pray esp. for sinners and those who disbelieve there is a God. Study Scripture and be kind to all people.
No one can just show you where it is written-you must pray and worship God-then He will guide you-no shortcuts, sorry.
Well, one great headstart would be to ask Our Lady to help you-

Throughout Jesus’s life he felt the full presense of God because He was pure and good and without sin. He could feel the presense of the holy spirt, he could hear God, he could feel God’s peace in a way that only a truly sinless person could, a complete state of Grace.

When Jesus hung on the cross He took on all of our sins - past, present and future onto himself. All sins, for all of us, at once, and the sinless felt the pain of sin and the effects of sin on His relationship with God and the pain of falling from Grace. He was in pain both physically and spiritually.

He died for the reasons the others posted, to be a bridge between God and man but he also died so that he could rise from the dead.

Can you imagine the amount of people whose faith was built the day he rose from the dead and showed us His power over death and his love for us? I can only imagine what it was like to be there.

I imagine Jesus as a giant filter. God’s light is so powerful that I can not look into it directly however through Jesus I can see just fine.

When I hear that Jesus died for our sins, past, present and future, I get confused as do some of my Protestant friends. I have one Baptist friend with whom I have dicussed this and she believes that once the sacrifice was made and all sins are forgiven past, present and FUTURE (especially) that is that. She is a good person so I know she takes responsibility for her actions, but I think this is where my confusion comes in. What say you?? Peace.

Present Process (I am being saved)

Phil 2:12 “work out your salvation with fear and trembling”
1 Pet 1:9 “as you attain the goal of your faith, salvation”

Future Event ( I will be saved)

Mt.10:22 “he who endures to the end will be saved”
Mt. 24:13 “he who perseveres to the end will be saved”
Mk 8:35 “whoever loses his life for my sake will save it”
Heb 9:28 “Jesus will apear second time, to bring salvation”

Catholics believe that the redemptive work of Christ is complete and all sufficient. Through His suffering , death and resurrection , Jesus redeemed everyone; He paid for all sins and made it possible for anyone to be saved. However , we know that not everyone is automatically saved. Christians, admit that people can fail to be saved by refusing to repent, or by refusing to cooperate with God’s grace.

Although the redemptive work of Christ is complete,the merits of His redemption must still be applied to each person in order for him to be saved.

(Matt. 19;16-17) person must repent
(Acts 16:31) believe in Jesus
(Mt 19:16-17) keep the commandments

We can lose our salvation;

2 Tim 2:12 , St. Paul says that we must hold out to the end if we want to reign with Christ. In Rom 11:22, christians are warned that they will be cut off if they don’t persevere in the kindness of God.

Scripture is very clear on what Jesus says and how we are to live. Christians believe and LIVE the life of Christ, he has shown us the way to eternal life.

It is the gift of faith for those of us that believe.

Quite simply stated, Jesus died for the possibility of repairing
the relationship of man and God for all the sins that all man has committed in the past since Adam & Eve, all that are being committed at this moment in time and all the sins that will be committed in the future.

Jesus died so that all sins, past, present and future could be forgiven BUT one has to ASK for forgiveness after each and every sin.

This is why once saved/always saved philosophy is confusing-Jesus always forgives-if asked with a contrite heart.

Once forgiven they are as forgotten by Him-if you try to live each moment in the presence of God and to avoid sin then you may stop worrying about heaven and hell and begin to live in heaven while still on earth:thumbsup:
