Can someone who has had an abortion join the Church?

I had an abortion when I was in high school. After much growing up and meditation, I have decided to join the Catholic faith. I am currently in RCIA and hoping to get confirmed and receive my first holy Communion (I have already been baptized). Is this possible? I know that I have to confess my mortal sins before holy Communion but will I be excommunicated after confessing my grave mortal sin?
 
You will be absolved in sacramental confession, not excommunicated. In this country, where abortion is so tragically widespread, priests ordinarily have the ability to reconcile to the Church people who have participated in the sin of abortion. God bless and welcome home.
