I’ve been discussing Catholicism with my adult children (we’re all Protestant). My daughter brought up the objection of Catholic penance. I realized I know very little about it. Can I get some help with the Catholic reasons for penance vs simple repentance?

Here is a link to a thread with many articles on Confession.

Some of the articles discuss biblical reasons, others look at quotes by the early church fathers. I skimmed through them and they looked to cover most of the main points.

If you come upon anything you have specific questions on, feel free to ask them, and I and probably many others will be willing to try and answer them

Did you forget to include the link?

Here is an article by a former Protestant who draws heavily off Scripture your Protestant peers may better relate to. Think of it as a person drawing off the power of Christ and letting that power flow through himself, for it is only by the power of Christ that sins are healed.
