Can souls in Hell sin like they did on Earth?

“Like on Earth” is an interesting clause, but I’ll say yes, so long as “like on Earth” is understood analogously. Saint Thomas Aquinas argued that those who died in mortal sin, attached and directed to sin instead of God, continued to will the same evils after death.

Some Catholics say that souls in Hell hate God and hating God is a sin.
If they hate God, hell would not be a bad place for them in theory…after all, if someone lives their earthly life hating God, not abiding by his laws, and or not knowing God at all, why would hell be any different for them? they are getting what they want the most…an existence without God.

Except for that, on Earth, no matter how much someone hates God, God is still present to them. He is still here, lifting us up and calling out to us.

Hell is not like that.

Hell is the absence of God. Hell is the absence of good. It is the absence of purpose and meaning. It is nothing but hatred, anger, and despair.

We talk about Hell as though it’s just this life without God, like it’s life without having to worship or follow any moral laws… But it’s not, not even close. It’s not just “eternity without God,” it is a empty, meaningless, painful existence made infinitely more horrific for the absolute knowledge that it will never end.

Exactly, and it is all of those things precisely because it is life without God. There literally can not be any good or satisfaction without God. Those who think they hate God probably still desire goodness, and this is an aspect of God.

I doubt they can sin. Sin is an action that separates a person from God, and those in hell are already fully separated from God. Even if they could sin, they would not attain any pleasure from it.
Here’s why:

-Pleasure is a good

-Goodness comes from God

-People in hell are completely isolated from God

-Therefore people in hell are isolated from the good of pleasure

Please, someone point out if I said anything wrong - I would not consider myself very experienced in this topic.

God bless.

I’m not sure, either? Some have had out of body experiences. They all said=dark, hot, fire, ppl clawing at you. Nothing sounds good. HELL is a punishment.
It isn’t like Satan invites you to a party. He enjoys our unhappiness. The vision of Fatima involved flames.
Bible says FIRE& BRIMSTONE! A fire that never consumes. Yulk! Ones last words and thoughts should be “FORGIVENESS AND MERCY” w honesty felt in heart.
Forgive us,Lord. Look not on our sins. Pour your mercy river on us.
in Jesus name
Amen.
Lord, bring peace and assurance to those who are concerned.
Thank you.

The reason the punishment of hell is eternal - as opposed to Purgatory - is because the obstinacy of its inhabitants is eternal. They have an intense hatred of God and of his creation, and this by itself is to constantly sin. If they stopped sinning they would go to Heaven (which will never happen since their will is final), since God has no pleasure to keep them there, and binds them insofar as what justice demands. Hell wouldn’t exist without sin, just like Heaven wouldn’t exist without love.

There are also private accounts that say the damned are constantly blaspheming God and his creation, as well as committing violence against each other.

Not only do souls in hell sin, but sin is what completely consumes and occupies their consciousness, just like love is what completely occupies the blessed.

Ok, interesting. Thanks for correcting me! I guess it only makes sense that they can sin. Besides, I already knew that souls in Hell are completely enveloped by hatred and jealousy of God, the saints, and one another, and those are sins. Why didn’t I think about that when I posted?

Anyways, God bless.

If someone truly did not want God in their life while on earth, yet he still is to some degree, then free will is not really that accessible/ usable.

Im not sure about hell feeling like ‘forever’ or it will never end…there is no time in heaven or hell, so it wouldnt feel like 3 minutes or 30 billion years, there is no way we can comprehend what an existence without time, feels like but I assume it is nothing remotely close to what we imagine it to be.
