My mother received anointing at the hospital from the hospital chaplain.

She also received it in my front room.

I’ve received it after Mass, with just my priest and myself present.

Yes, you can receive it privately and outside of church.

Thistle, I will pray for you.

Yes, you can receive Anointing of the Sick privately in church outside of Mass, in the hospital or in your home.

Are there any sick among you? Let them call for the presbyters of the Church to lay hands on them and anoint them.

Anointing of the Sick is available anywhere, anytime.

I will pray for you,
Deacon Christopher

Be sure the hospital has you listed as Catholic (do this when you are admitted) so the Priests/EMHCs who covert that hospital are aware you are there.
I live in Manila, Philippines. By default everyone assumes I am Catholic. The doctors I am seeing are also Catholic.

I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Yes, definitely get anointed. Just let your priest know even after mass. If you have a few moments to wait for him to finish greeting, etc. he will likely anoint you right then and there. It doesn’t take very long, and many priest always have holy chrism with them.

You are in my prayers.

I am truly sorry to hear this. May God protect you and I shall offer prayers for you.

This sacrament does not have to be administered by a specific priest, e.g. your parish priest, nor does it have to be administered in any particular place, e.g. your parish church.

Any priest should be prepared to anoint you at a time and place of your choosing.

I believe a priest is supposed to carry on his person a small stock of the oil of the sick to anoint people in cases of emergency.

You may also wish to know that you can receive this sacrament more than once.

I will also pray for you, Thistle.

Our parish sometimes has anointings directly after Mass. This is usually when someone wishes to be anointed in the company of a few fellow parishioners. But I imagine most are done even more privately.

In some parishes around here on the day of Feb 11th or a day around it to include the Anointing of the Sick during Mass. It is the day of Our Lady of Lourdes and also the World Day of the Sick since 1992 when pope John Paul II initiated it.

If there are lots of people asking for the Sacrament then the parish makes sure there is more than one priest present to hear Confessions before Mass and also to anoint. The parish might even ask a few persons to help the sick and elderly with transportation to the church.
