Can the bride receive Communion at a mixed-faith wedding?

Please help me figure this out. We are to attend the wedding of a Catholic and a non-baptized Baptist. There is an issue as to whether or not they can celebrate Mass during the ceremony. The bride feels strongly about receiving Communion during the ceremony. My question is not only the issue of it being a mixed-faith wedding, but also the couple are living together. I feel she should not be allowed to receive Communion unless she makes a good confession. Am I correct?

If one of the parties is not baptized, there cannot be a nuptial Mass. A nuptial Mass can be held only when both parties are baptized. If your report is accurate, it sounds to me that the bride has a sentimentalized image of how a Catholic wedding is “supposed” to occur (receiving Communion) but no real understanding of or consideration for how Catholics are supposed to marry (marriage to a Catholic, observance of chastity, etc.).

In any case, this isn’t your problem. You have not indicated any special closeness to the bride or groom that would justify your involvement in determining how the ceremony should occur.
