I was reading on here that the devil and his angels suffer the pain of being seperated from God and how much sorrow they feel, but why don’t they just decide to come back to God? And love God again? I’m sure our loving merciful God would welcome the devil with open arms wouldn’t he? Like the story of the man with his son. What if for example we came to contact with a demon, and instead of attacking him, we pray for him and tell him to stop being rebellious and to repent and love God? What would happen then? Do they (demons) have the free will to understand and repent and ask for Gods mercy And forgiveness?
Jesus said “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels… And these will go off to eternal punishment” (Matt. 25:41, 46). There is no repentance or conversion in hell. It takes God’s gift of grace to repent and to be converted as it is written “Convert us Oh Lord to thee and we shall be converted” (Lamentations 5:21) but the time and season of this gift of God’s grace is over for those in hell. Consequently, the will of the fallen angels and humans in hell is fixed on evil and sin, malice and hatred. They have separated themselves from God and His mercy. The fallen angels and humans in hell experience sorrow not because they are sorry for the sins they committed but because of the punishment they endure which is a consequence of their sins. And the principle sorrow they experience is abandonment and separation from God who the cause and source of the happiness of the blessed in heaven.
