somewhere in pope benedict XVI’s recent book “jesus of nazareth” he emphatically makes the point that satan may be the greatest of all scripture scholars; this is said in the context of misuses of the historico-critical method of interpreting the Bible. i wish i could find the exact quote in the text but i’m having trouble p(name removed by moderator)ointing it. it’s definitely somewhere in the first four chapters; if i can find it later i’ll post the exact quote.
I believe it’s on pages 34-35. 🙂

OK. We’ve established that Satan can twist and use the Bible for his own ends. The question then remains.

Can Satan use the Word of God to further his own agenda?

Peace
James
Yes

Interesting responses so far.

I want to be clear though so I want to redefine here.
I’m not trying to be difficult but am trying to get to an understanding.

We seem to be in agreement that Satan can use the Bible to further his agenda. There is less agreement on whether he can use the Word of God. So to clarify what I mean by Word of God:

God’s Word is written on our hearts. The Holy Spirit writes it there.

Can Satan use this to further his agenda?

Satan’s power is in the mind, which can negatively affect the heart and the Word written there. Satan cannot change that Word in our hearts, but he can affect its meaning through his power over the mind.

I’ve heard that said somewhere else 🙂 The devil is an excellent theologian, & thoroughly orthodox. In every respect. Except the really important one.

Nice to see some support for the uses of the HCM 🙂

Thank you.
Now let me rephrase the question.

Can, and does, Satan use the Word of God to further his own agenda?
***Hi, JRKH!

…we know that Satan does use the Word of God in an effort to subvert God. It happened with Eve where he reworded God’s command, changed the reason why He commanded that Adam and Eve not eat of the two specific trees, and distracted from the meaning of death so that Adam and Eve would not fully comprehend their failure.

He used his knowledge of God and the Scriptures while tempting Jesus in the desert to reveal Himself as God.

And he used his minions in various attempts to reveal the Truth about Jesus to the crowds.

What is more scary is his ability to use our weaknesses against us and against the Church (look at Church history). Division amongst the Body of Christ is a very hurtfull example of how Satan has used vanity, intellectualism, and egocentrism to create the incomprehensible multiplicity of doctrines, each professing to be Christ’s own and only truth. Satan has placed blinders on oh so many who actually believe that Jesus preached pluralism of Faith and Doctrine–yes, even as they read His own Word that Commands us to be one; and, even when His Apostles speak on the uniformity of the Church: One God, One Lord, One Spirit, One Baptism, One Gospel: One Faith!

Maran atha!

You guys are great. Thanks for your patience.

It appears that we agree that
A) God’s Word is perfect when He reveals it to us, but
B) It becomes suseptable to Satan’s wile’s once it enters the corporeal world.

Now another point/question.

Do you believe it possible for humans to capture in any human language, God’s Holy Word with perfect clarity and understanding?

Or are we doomed to trying to capture Perfect Truth with imperfect means?

I appreciate all your (name removed by moderator)ut - (I really do)👍

Well, not doomed as in DOOMED! 😃

But, yes, we have imperfect means in the sense of our human-ness, but not in the sense of the Holy Spirit who provides us with that means.

Speaking of doomed, check out that particular “church” in Kansas that claims America is doomed because of…well…let’s just say they use scripture to “proove” their wacky beliefs. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, PM me. 😉 Methinks that such is an example of Satan using scripture to his benefit by misleading Christ’s separated flock.

I submit this as part of Satan’s agenda:

Denomination List

If you can’t beat them, set them against one another.
I would tend to agree.

1 Corinthians 1:10

“Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in agreement and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same purpose.”

After God Himself, Satan knows the Bible the best! (for his own perverted purposes of course)…we must not forget Satan was the most intelligent and beautiful angel that was created and was God’s right hand man.

when anticatholics try to use the bible to “prove” the catholic church wrong, thats an example of satan using the bible. He’s working through these heretics

God’s Word is “living and active” - we could sooner capture a sunbeam than make a perfect translation of what is in origin a Divine Word 🙂

So, no 🙂

Thank you.
Now let me rephrase the question.
Why is it we NEVER hear of 'Black altar calls"?

or “Black Bible Studies”?🤷

or “Black hot dish fellowships”?

But we ALWAYS hear of the worshippers of Satan conducting a “black” Mass!

Robert

If something has weight, it can be thrown to harm.

I have many friends who claim it was the Bible itself that made them so vehement to Christians. They may have come to it with their own prejudice, or it is always a possibility Satan twisted their minds so that the meaning became something else to them. The Bible used correctly, then no, Satan cannot touch it, but used incorrectly, he could try anything.

You’ve obviously never been to one of my family reunions! 😃

Why. You wouldn’t be “Black Irish” would you?😉 😃

Peace
James
Not entirely sure what that means. What I meant was that a fair deal of “deviltry” takes place at some of those reuninions, which explains why I seldom go, and on the rare occassion I do go, I don’t linger long.

Usually this means I leave before the giant tub o’ margueritas and trays of jello shooters come out.

But I digress.
