The local priest has begun using the following for the dismissal: “Our Eucharist has ended” and “Our Eucharist is over” and “The Eucharist has ended, go forth to love God and serve one another.” Is this correct?
The priest is using the word Eucharist as a synonym for the word Mass. Unfortunately, by using the word for the sacrament instead of the word for the liturgy, he is giving the impression that Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist ends when the priest announces that the Mass is over. This kind of confusion is what happens when priests make unauthorized deviations from the approved liturgical texts.
