I was watching EWTN Midnight mass and they recite the Hail Mary during the Prayer of the Faithful.

Is that allowed in the liturgy? The Mass was a daily Mass. I know there is nothing wrong about it but I never heard it being said in Daily Mass.

I have heard it said a few times in daily and Sunday masses - either during the prayers of the faithful or as a prayer of reflection after distribution of Communion.

I found the answer from EWTN;
Answer by David Gregson on 2/20/2007:
There is no reason not to say the Hail Mary at Mass, so long as it doesn’t alter or otherwise intrude upon the fixed prayers. The Prayer of the Faithful is somewhat flexible, and so it seems an appropriate place to add the Hail Mary. As a rule, the Prayer of the Faithful should include intentions:
  1. For the needs of the Church;
  2. For public authorities and the salvation of the whole world;
  3. For those burdened by any kind of difficulty;
  4. For the local community. (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, 70)

Every time I’ve gone to mass in the U.K., I’ve always heard the Hail Mary–as part of the Prayers To The Faithful.

I wish more churches here in the U.S. would do it.

In the UK I have never been to a Mass where the Hail Mary is not said at the end of the Prayers of the Fathful.

WOW

In the 24 years I attended a Latin Church I never once heard the Angelic Salutation said during or after the Bidding prayers

I’ll have to dig it up but I heard on another forum that this was the decision of the Bishops Conference of England & Wales- the Hail Mary should always end the Prayers of the Faithful there.

No, the Hail Mary should not be said as part of the General Intercessions at Mass.
No provision is made for the general intercessions to include a prayer said by everyone, such as the Hail Mary or a parish prayer. It would be surprising if the Apostolic See even permitted the Hail Mary as an inculturation experiment since according to the 1994 Instruction on the Roman Liturgy and Inculturation, n 45: “The introduction of devotional practices into liturgical celebrations under the pretext of inculturation cannot be allowed “because by its nature, (the liturgy) is superior to them.” (Footnote: Sacrosanctum Concilium, n 13)”.
In Marialis Cultus, n 48, Pope Paul VI wrote: “it is a mistake to recite the rosary during the celebration of the liturgy”.
The 2001 Directory on Popular Piety, n 2 quotes the 1988 Apostolic Letter Vicesimus Quintus Annus, of John Paul II, n. 18:
“The pious exercises of the Christian people and other forms of devotion can be accepted and recommended provided that they do not become substitutes for the Liturgy or integrated into the Liturgical celebrations.” (my bold highlighting).
The 2002 General Introduction to the Roman Missal (GIRM) approved for the USA, which can be accessed from romanrite.com/girm.html has about the Prayer of the Faithful:
“71. It is for the priest celebrant to direct this prayer from the chair. He himself begins it with a brief introduction, by which he invites the faithful to pray, and likewise he concludes it with a prayer. The intentions announced should be sober, be composed freely but prudently, and be succinct, and they should express the prayer of the entire community.”
The priest is to conclude the Prayer of the Faithful, not the whole congregation.

In my parish, after the priest concludes the Prayer of the Faithful, he has the whole congregation recite the Prayer to St. Michael before the Offertory begins.

Usually he does. The usual procedure is prayers of the faithful as per normal, with the Hail Mary said between the final intention and the concluding prayer, said by the priest alone as per normal.
