Can the Pope write a book?

I had one of my catechists ask if the Pope could write a book, no an Apostolic Letter or Encyclical, but a book.

I do not know if he can or if any pope has ever done so.

Pope’s can and have written books. Pope Benedict XVI and Saint Pope John Paul II both wrote books while they were Pope. However, when they do write a book it is their personal opinion and not an authoritative teaching.
