Can there be a woman in the place of a best man?

My daughter’s husband-to-be is not Catholic, but very much respects the Church. He is very close to his sister and wants her in the place of a best man at the wedding. I heard that the two witnesses can be two men or two women, but I have never heard of a ‘best woman’ before. What does the Church say about this?
