Can there be more than one Pope?

That is correct. There cannot be two Popes, the same as there cannot be two Bishops of a diocese. While a diocese by have more than one Bishop present in the diocese, only one is the Bishop **of **the diocese (called the Ordinary). The Pope is the Bishop of Rome and thus there can only be one.
