Can there be Pro-Choice Catholics?

I have recently converted to Catholicism, and and shocked to learn there are a great deal of Catholics who vote for Democrats. The platform of that party clearly supports abortion. The Roman Catholic Church condemns abortion as a grave sin.

Why are pro-choice Catholics allowed to receive communion? Aren’t they in danger of hell by receiving the Body and Blood of the Lord while knowingly disobeying or opposing teachings of the Church?
