Can this be forgiven?

If someone commits a mortal sin with the preconceived notion that they can go to confession to make up for it, can that confession ever be sincere and thus could the sin be forgiven?

For example, a man is tempted to commit adultery but before he does, he thinks, “Why not? I can just go to confession later.” Would that confession be valid?

What if, after all, he does feel contrite and also confesses to abusing the sacrament? Would that make the confession of adultery valid (if it wasn’t already)?

I have fell into this line of reasoning in the past when I didn’t fell like going to Mass and am now worried if I have truly been forgiven.

Friend,

We never have to fear being misunderstood by God. If we are truly sorry for having sinned and are sincere in not committing such sin again, He will always forgive us. If you sinned by deliberately missing Sunday Mass because you reasoned that you could always go to Confession afterword, you committed the sin of presumption as well as the sin of missing Mass. If you then confess these sins sincerely, you will be forgiven. The key here is not God’s displeasure with you, but your sincerity.
