Hi,

First, I want to thank you for having your site available. It has been a great resource for me.

I have a question/situation I haven’t seen on you site and was wondering if you could offer an opinion.

I am a Catholic. I always thought I would follow the basic order of things: Find a nice Catholic woman, date, get married, and have children. However life just didn’t seem to work out that way.

I am 37, I met a lovely woman a couple of years ago and we have developed a serious relationship. She is an Episcopal. When she was in her 20’s she had a brief marriage and went through an amicable divorce. While we were researching our marriage options recently, we also became pregnant.

We have discussed our religions and while Connie does not want to convert to Catholicism, she knows of and is supportive of my desire to raise our child in the Catholic faith.

So, my questions:

Can Connie and I have a Marriage that is recognized by the Catholic Church given:

o She has been divorced
o She is an Episcopal (from what I read on your site the Catholic church does support interfaith marriages with conditions)
o We are currently expecting a child

Any perspective you could share on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
  • Vince

Vince,

My best wishes to you and Connie on the impending birth of your child! These links should explain how you can be validly and sacramentally married in the Church. If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by these links, please contact Catholic Answers directly.
