Can we always blame Satan for our guilt?

We should blame ourselves for we know better.
Yes, he lives to torment us and take us from union with Christ, But at the point where we sin? WE are culpable.
 
Exactly. “The devil made me do it” doesn’t fly in confession. We are forgiven when we accept responsibility and repent of our sins.

Go to that line - as the last resort !
 
Satan is just there to say i told you so. He is the tempter and the accuser. But he doesn’t really have anymore power than God has allowed and we allow. In the end, we make the choice. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy.

No, we have only ourselves to blame. What we do or don’t do is our choice.
 
I don’t understand. We credit God for our goodness but we can’t blame Satan for our guilt. I think we’re responsible for our choices but our culpability varies from person to person
 
Why blame anyone for what we do? It is always our choice. Free will, you know.
 
This is true. But in principle, sins that are not a product of addiction or habit or poor mental health, are not forced unto us by the devil. He doesn’t actually force us to do it. And we do have a tendency toward selfishness, and i am sure God takes this into account.

Not as long as we have free will and the tools to resist temptation. Staying close to God at all times tops the list.
 
Why give God credit when we’re good? We are responsible for our bad choices but not put good ones. If God takes credit for our goodness then the Satan is responsible for our badness
 
Because it’s only possible to be good because there is such a thing as God. We give thanks for the good that he has given us, no?
 
Badness is only possible through Satan. I’m playing devil’s advocate. I still don’t understand honestly how Satan is in no way responsible for our failures but we must thank God for our goodness
 
Sin leads us away from God and so even though God is good we all don’t always do well by Him. We might say we can also take credit for following God’s will and doing good as we can also be blamed for falling into temptation. In fact I tell people thank you for following God’s will. We are responsible for our own actions and can’t use the devil as a scapegoat.

I don’t think that’s true.Satan may have tempted us, but we fell because we chose to do evil. The devil was created good, he fell because he stood against God’s love. Now the devil seeks the ruin of humanity, and in that respect he bears some responsibility as a tempter, but we choose it. Perhaps if the devil did not exist, God would not be so merciful with us.

The way I see Satan in all this is like a human tempting me with something compared to me just tempting myself, the former is much harder to say no to as they are assisting me.
 
If the devil didn’t exist, we would still be sinful? I prefer the simpler practice of faith. Avoid temptation, pray, this is what discourages me from reading the Bible independently outside of church. It gets too philosophical. I don’t like thinking of people as inherently and hopelessly evil. The gospel doesn’t care how I feel.
