My question is as follows: Are proxies allowed for godparents at baptismal ceremonies? And can they be just anyone (such as my brother and sister-in-law who are not practicing their faith at all)?
See here is our scenario. We want good and faithful godparents for our child. We also want the godparents to be members of our family, sooooo that leaves us with a couple who live at a great distance from us. And with the added expense of birth, etc., etc., it would be easier and happier for everyone if my brother and sister-in-law who don’t practice the faith could have some participatory role, that is as proxy only.
