Can we attend a civil wedding ceremony?

Is it okay to attend a marriage ceremony where it will be a justice of the peace performing the ceremony. This is a very special cousin’s son who is having a civil ceremony. I would like to go just to support my cousin as we are very close…The marriage is not recognized as valid - is that correct?

I want to defend Our Faith but I also love my cousin and don’t want to hurt her!!! Would it be wrong to go?
