My cousin, who is a cradle catholic, a practicing catholic, has chosen to marry a woman who practices her faith in the St. Pius X church. They are having their marriage celebrated at her church.

At present, we know this tradition is in schism, although Pope Benedict has said now that these Latin masses can be celebrated. We want to support my cousin, but do not support his choice in marrying through a church in schism.

I have been told that this mass is valid when as as last resource, and that their marriage will be valid. Is this true? And can we attend their wedding celebration without compromising our morals as Catholics?

In relation to this issue, I have attended Protestant friends’ weddings in the past. How would this compare to attending a Pius X wedding?
