Dear Apologist,
We have family fallen away from the Church who will be marrying a non-Catholic. The ceremony is to be held in a conference center. Although we’ve been informed that such a marriage by someone who does not consider themselves Catholic anymore would lessen their culpability in marrying against the faith. However, we’ve learned that the ceremony might be administered by a retired Catholic monsignor. Is this allowed and would it still be OK to attend or would it look as though we are approving an action against the faith? Is a retired monsignor allowed to do this?
