Thank you, but I already am done with Christianity (Catholicism to be specific) and I do not see myself going back as I disagree with too much of what is taught.
Merry Meet Blessedbe13,

I’m sorry to hear that you disapprove of the Catholic Church. Definitely the Church’s loss. As a Catholic who once practiced witchcraft I hope you would reconsider and if not, that your heart remains open to all possibilities.

Of which do you disagree? What form of Christianity did you practice and who invited you to wicca? Just curious

Peace

As it said in my post, I was Catholic. I was born and raised into a Catholic family, but I simply do not agree with a lot of what is taught.

I made the choice to start practicing Wicca on my own, as my beliefs fit more closely with Wiccan beliefs.

While I do remain open to all possibilities, I don’t see my beliefs changing that drastically. Growing up in a Catholic home, I sort of “forced” myself to believe what I was taught because that was all I knew and especially as a younger child, I simply accepted what my parents said as truth. As I got older, I started thinking more for myself and began questioning the beliefs I had been raised in.

I hear you. I left the Church too and after 25 years returned. I didn’t leave for something else, I just stopped practicing because it didn’t fit my lifestyle, you know, too hard to do, so many rules and accountability and all. One day, my 6 year old daughter asked if we could go to Church, and I said O.K. God wanted me back…Iwas knocked down in the flash of an instant that day at Mass my whole life turned on a dime…I mean it was so fast I can’t describe it. I came home and called my Mom and thanked her for teaching me what she did as a child, and today I feed my children, if they are hungry, a fish, not a serpent. Being force fed truth when you’re young makes it easier to swallow later on in life when we are starved by this world and it’s false promises. I hope (because hope only exists against that which can be lost) that one day in God’s time, not ours, that I enjoy your company in Heaven. We come back, if we do, in a myriad of ways, no two are the same. We miss you.

Peace

That is very untrue. I do not believe people are inherently “bad”, but people do make mistakes, and people do commit evil deeds. One would have to be living under a rock not to realize this, and because I do not live under a rock, I can see or hear about the bad committed by people on a daily basis. However, I do not believe that anyone is so evil, or has been evil their ENTIRE lives, that they would deserve to face eternal torture and punishment - that is, if one believes in an ALL loving Creator, which I do.
Hi Blessedbe, The problem I see is that you have found a god that fits your lifestyle. This goes against the first commandment.Thou shall not have false gods before me. Our Christian God is an ALL LOVING GOD. He loves you so much that He does not want to see you perish. Its your god that has lied to you telling you there is no Hell. God is many things,He is holy, perfect loving, and good. One day you will come before God for judgement. You will be judged by Gods standard not yours. If you are guilty of breaking one commandment you are guilty of breaking them all in Gods eyes. In talking to you before you probably are guilty of breaking most of the commandments as I also have. What do you think your sentence is going to be? .Guilty or not Guilty? Your salvation is not based on the good things you have done. Yes our God is AN ALL LOVING God . So much so that He sent His only begotten Son to pay the price for your sins. Jesus Has stepped forward and paid your debt for your sins. He died on the cross for You and me. Hell or Heaven is your choice. Choose LIFE or choose DEATH. Its up to you. Its very simple,Admitt your a sinner and repent. Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins.Recieve Jesus as Lord and Savior into your heart. Thank Him for His Mercy and Grace. BlessedBe ,He loves you so much.Today is a new day. Wont you give your heart to Jesus. There is no looking back. Jesus will wipe away your sins and remember them no more. I pray that you open the DOOR. God Bless you.

No, I have found the image of deity that I believe in.
This goes against the first commandment.
Although certain aspects of the 10 Commandments are good and are part or similar to my own beliefs(in regards to killing, lying, stealing, adultery, etc.), I do not follow the 10 Commandments, so this really does not affect me.
Its your god that has lied to you telling you there is no Hell.
No god told me that. That is my own belief.
Your salvation is not based on the good things you have done.
That’s right. Do good most of your lief, but don’t believe in the right image of deity and off to eternal punishment for you. Yup, that sure is an all loving god.

Hi Blessed Be,

When I read your statement quoted above my head tilted, you know like a dogs does when it hears something confusing? Anyway, I know what struck me as unfamiliar. For me, when I was an undecided, I searched with the thought; where is the teaching that describes the ‘real’ God. Where is the true construct of reality taught? Where’s the beef? The character or image of the deity wasn’t a concern I guess. I figured any image or characterization would be nothing more that an extension of human personality anyway. That’s kinda why I liked the pagan gods of winter and spring. No human projections just the power that makes things end and the power that makes things begin. I’m curious about your chosen deity. Would it be permissable for you to reveal something about your deity if not the identity thereof, and what is it that attracts you?

apart from Judas, who is definately in hell? How about Hitler? Devils are NOT humans and shouldn’t be included in the discussion.
Devils are not humans, but they are persons.

You could reasonably believe that someone, other than Judas, was in hell just as you could reasonably believe that the consecration at a particular Mass was valid or that Antartica exists. Since you’ve never been there and God could have destroyed it, it’s technically possible that Antartica no longer exists. But it’s still reasonable to believe that it does. Likewise with the Mass, it’s possible that the priest doesn’t have the necessary intention, but it would be reasonable to believe that he does – and indeed unreasonable to believe that he doesn’t.

i prefer to answer your thread title, which asks how we can be sure a person is hell.

we can be sure by spending the day with them.

bb13 said ‘As I got older, I started thinking more for myself and began questioning the beliefs I had been raised in.’

that’s great! now just keep doing that. it’ll eventually lead you to the Truth. 😉

That is a problem with Christianity the way it’s often presented. You are required and commanded to do something that only has value if you do it voluntarily.

That’s why I got into the apophatic tradition of Catholicism, which relegates God to the Cloud of the Unknowing. That is, we have no particular image of God at all, except we know that whatever images we have are false or at least incomplete.

I heard a preacher, evidently non-Catholic, today make an interesting statement: religion and tradition are masks we use to keep from revealing our false selves.

I would not state that religion and tradition are inherently those masks, but I would agree that they can be used in that way.

But then again, so can many things.

Would I be correct in saying that for you, the beliefs in your heart are the standard by which you judge the rest of the world? Or is there a standard external to you which plays a part?

until our faces grow into them.

for how can we meet God face to face, until we have faces?

that’s a very interesting quote, alan. who said that?

I’ll see if I can figure it out. I was just channel surfing away from EWTN and saw this guy. I only watched him for a few minutes but I kind of liked him.

I like your take on it…

There is a story concerning St. John Vianney, at the time Curé of Ars, France. One day a woman came running up to him in tears. “My husband has just jumped off the bridge!” she exclaimed. “He was a cruel and wicked man, and had not been to the sacraments or to the Mass for years!”

“Madame,” replied St. John, “there is still a little distance between the bridge and the water.”
