Can we discuss Judaism without the politics?

In many ways, you’re right. Torah teaches mussar. Bereshis is a metaphor. But SOME of Torah is literal, for example, I believe in the revelation.

Ya, maybe I’ll start a new thread where there is no debate between the two camps, just learning. I’ve personally been busy these past weeks.

Yes, Hezekiah is the child. The Hebrew verb “conceived” is “harah.” “Will give birth” in Isaiah 7:14 equals “yoledet.” Isaiah is pointing us to a woman he personally knows, not someone living centuries later. There is a lot of debate as to who she is, but all agree there’s a clue in 8:4. “He [Isaiah] approached the prophetess and she conceived (tahar) and bore (taled) a son and G-d said to me: Name the child “Maher-shalal-hash-baz” which means (the spoil speeds the prey hastens). For before the child shall know how to cry my father my mother the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Sammaria will be carried away before the king of Assyria.”

The woman in 7:14 was his wife, and Isaiah’s children are referred to by G-d as signs (Isaiah 8:18).

I loved your answer in your last post to me, you are very smart. Don’t take that as false modesty.

Without getting into much, because I don’t want to be apart of this debate and step on any toes (that’s not my job here), when Isaiah added “the/ha” he was saying, “the woman,” this indicates he personally knows her. That’s all I’m saying.

What do you mean you don’t believe in Tanakh/Torah/New Testament? Are you an atheist then? Rest assured that in my faith, Judaism, atheists don’t go to hell. Our faith is not based on the creed, but on the deed. If you live a good life, you’ll deserve Gan Eden (heaven), if not, you’ll go to a place of purification for 12 months max, in which your soul contemplates the misdeeds its done and lost opportunity to do good. See, it’s not a place of fire, brimstone and eternal torment. The Catholic Purgatory is on the right track here. If you committed offenses against fellow man, you’ll be reincarnated to prove yourself worthy again, and again, and again. . . until you reach a pure state by being a loving human being who does his or her best to make the world a better place. By this approach, someone even like Christopher Hitchens could go to Gan Eden. Only to extreme wicked, the likes of Adolf Hitler, would be obliterated forever.

What are you talking about? Good joke, it’s obviously not banned. The Shoah (Holocaust) did happen. Another good joke of yours.

Um… that’s a shame. Must be a way to get his IP and block it for good lest he make a new one.

He’s admitted to using a program that lets him impersonate other IPs. We’re stuck with him until he stops or the moderators put a halt on new membership.

Oh well, if we just ignore him, he’ll go away. Actually, these are the people to feel sorry about - I hope he can come up with more to do with life than troll. He could try something creative, like a novel, or study something of use.
