Can we ever say that a person is going to hell?

We had a mission in our parish last week. It was good in the fact that the priest spoke about many issues of today from abortion, contraception, and homosexuality. I know these are grave sins but what bothered me was that he said several times that “You will go to hell if you do such and such.” I don’t think that we can ever be God and make those kind of assessments. I would welcome your comment!

From what I understand, your priest did not make a judgment that any particular person is going to hell. He seemed to be saying that certain acts are grave matter, and if done without repentance can send a person to hell. That is a valid statement to make.
