Is it just an “emotional” Christian who feels the overwhelming presence of Jesus during the Mass? Holding on to the pew to keep you steady in the Real Presence.
I feel serenity and peace; like the world outside the Church walls has lost all of its power to harm and confuse. Is it just an “emotional” Christian who feels the overwhelming presence of Jesus during the Mass? Holding on to the pew to keep you steady in the Real Presence.
It certainly can be just emotional. For me, it is often more than that. What’s interesting for me is how I notice a sort of lack of presence when I’m not well focused. IOW, He’s there, but me, not so much.Is it just an “emotional” Christian who feels the overwhelming presence of Jesus during the Mass? Holding on to the pew to keep you steady in the Real Presence.
Yes, the rituals of the Mass leading up to the actual consecration of the Eucharist leave me almost light-headed and not because of incense, the choir or emotion. Luther shook in awe during the Elevation. When I take the Eucharist it affects me in such a profound way.Much deeper than emotions, when I first took the Eucharist after truly understanding the Real Presence if for the fact that I was sitting down I would have fell to my need in thanks and prise and awe
Yeah, sometimes we don’t know what we have until its gone. I agree. The stripping of the altar and the empty tabernacle on good Friday leave me forlorn and make me realize the great gift we have been given in the Eucharist. It is impossible for me to imagine my life without his true presence in my Church. For me, I can notice when Christ is not present. For example, when I walk into Church on Good Friday and the tabernacle is empty, it feels different in Church…something is amiss.

I agree. It feels very peculiar and lonely. I guess as Catholics our eyes and hearts focus on that spot and when it is empty, it’s like the light has gone out of the world. For me, I can notice when Christ is not present. When the holy Sacrament is moved on holy Thursday we say good bye to Christ as one would a departing loved one.I agree. It feels very peculiar and lonely. I guess as Catholics our eyes and hearts focus on that spot and when it is empty, it’s like the light has gone out of the world.

But it’s still in church, just a little bit further away from you in the sacristy probably, so it should only be a couple of more yards away from you than normal, beeline that is.When the holy Sacrament is moved on holy Thursday we say good bye to Christ as one would a departing loved one.
