Can we grow in the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit and how do you define wisdom?

This is two questions in one. So, in our spiritual lives, do we cultivate the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit, or do we grow in them, hopefully? Also, what is wisdom as one of the the gifts? How do you yourself define it? Seems like there are different ways of defining it to me, which in my way of thinking is semi-problematic. Thanks!

Hmm. I’m thinking just open yourself up to the Holy Spirit and pray to Him; learn how to discern His movements. As for wisdom; I think it’s mainly a matter of having clear discernment.
 
Wisdom is a gift in which a person can dechipher things and situations based on innate ability rather then study.
 
From my understanding, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to all the faithful through the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. These gifts are present to the person so long as they remain in a state of sanctifying grace.

Wisdom, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit enables one “to judge rightly concerning the truths of faith in accordance with their proper causes and the principles of revealed truth.” Thus even an uneducated person can acquire knowledge of the divine through the gift of wisdom.

I like this definition, but at the same time, it is rather abstract. It would be helpful to try and think up some examples to illustrate this definition of the Gift of Wisdom, as it is seen in the light of the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

God is love, and I believe that all truth should lead towards, love, compassion, kindness, patience, forgiveness and mercy. The truth could possibly be summed up through living the greatest commandments.
 
I will share the definition of wisdom found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

-a spiritual gift which enables one to know the purpose and plan of God.

But there are still other ways to express it. And I know some of you CAFers have the “wisdom” to say more about Wisdom as one of the 7 gifts. 🙂
 
Well you have to look at Isaiah 11-1-7

This prophecy or These gifts originally were spiritual traits or gifts for the Messiah. Jesus.

So if you are not anointed by the holy spirit. Then you have to read the commentaries of someone else’s revelation.

2 cor 1-20? All the promices of God are yes and amen

Yes, maybe that is a good way to look at the spiritual gift of wisdom.
 
During Baptism we all are given a small proportion of the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit, we by His grace should strengthen it and increase it , by our prayers fasting and grow in virtues day by day especially through frequent sacraments ,the simplest way to get wisdom is just to pray to Jesus and ask for it.

James 1:5-8 15 If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. 6 But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; 7, 8 for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
wisdom 9:1-4 Solomon’s Prayer for Wisdom
“O God of my ancestors and Lord of mercy, who have made all things by your word,2 and by your wisdom have formed humankind to have dominion over the creatures you have made,3 and rule the world in holiness and righteousness, and pronounce judgment in uprightness of soul,4 give me the wisdom that sits by your throne, and do not reject me from among your servants. Wisdom 9:17 Who has learned your counsel, unless you have given wisdom and sent your holy spirit from on high?

If we sin we will not get Wisdom

Psalms 51:6 You desire truth in the inward being;
therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.11 Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me.12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.

**Wisdom 1:4 ** because wisdom will not enter a deceitful soul,
or dwell in a body enslaved to sin.
