Can we share what our 'nicks' mean?

Oftentimes people don’t “follow” (understand) what I’m saying because I talk fast. Also, I love music and in the olden days you would learn lyrics of a song by following a bouncing ball over the words.

Remember the motto “follow the bouncing ball” . LOL.😃

Mine’s a play on words. Dorian is a mode (the predecessor of modern day music keys) of Gregorian chant.

While mine will make some of you think I am a horrible sinner, or even possible subjected to the devil, here goes:

When I was 11, so that was 20 years ago, I started playing Dungeons and Dragons. I still play to this day, though now it’s online. It’s something that helped shape my imagination, and brought me years of entertainment. Teneas was the name of my first character ever, an elf. Just something from my childhood, and something near and dear to my heart. I have kept the name for use on gaming sites, online games in general, and other things.

So…nothing Christian in my name technically.
 
Gurney Halleck is a character from Frank Herbert’s absolutey superb, classic, timeless book “Dune,” that I have adored reading since I was a kid. Big sci-fi geek here. Gurney is an old-fashioned warrior advisor to Duke Leto, the leader of a powerful family called House Atreides. He’s also Paul’s teacher. He is conservative, direct, caring, sentimental, writes poetry, plays an instrument much like a guitar, and he is fiercely loyal to the Duke. He survives a cheap shot sneak attack on Dune from their enemy family the Harkonnens and lives to reunite with the Duke’s son, Paul, the hero of the book. I always thought he was a humerous, delightful, classy character. I liked also that Patrick Stewart of Captain Picard fame, played good ole’ Gurney in the 1984 film. I happen to play the guitar, am a teacher, sentimental as one can get, love literature and a good poem, don’t run away from a fight, have strong beliefs, and am fairly conservative.

Jacob’s first born. J is for Jacob. Even though he was the first born he was more of an ordinary Joe - never was the star of the family. I thought Judah was and Joseph was the famous one. Levi was the priest and Benjamin the most loved by his father. I was attracted to the idea of first born - we are all first borns in Jesus Christ and call our God, Abba Father.

Another aspect of first born is the Church that Jesus founded. 😉
 
Mine is a creole of Greek and Latin which means “wolf-heart” (“Lycos” and “Cor”, respectively). I was always drawn to wolves and wolfish symbolism and metaphor, so I cooked up this handle some years ago, well before I had my first computer (always intended to use it for a solo Catholic Black Metal project that naturally never happened), and I’ve used it liberally ever since. Even went by it in person when I lived in New England; some old friends still call me by that.

My last name comes from the french word ‘merle’ meaning blackbird. Hence the one as my icon. My favorite poet is Edgar Allan Poe, so I took the “Quoth the raven, Nevermore” from “The Raven.” When I was younger I thought a blackbird was another name for raven, or crow. My gothic side was upset when I learned that a blackbird was a member of the thrush family. Two is my favorite number, so there we are.
 
“Izdaari” (pronounced Iz-DAHR-ee) doesn’t mean anything: it’s random pseudo-Swahili. It’s the name of my old EverQuest character, an Erudite Enchantress, and I’ve been using it online ever since. Call me Izzy for short. :cool:
