Can we use NFP indefinitely to prevent pregnancy?

Hello

I am new here on CAF and really need an answer. My husband and I were married in the Catholic church but he is not currently active in our church.
The problem is that he is telling me he does not want me to get pregnant due to my age(almost 48). He is afraid of me having a problem during the pregnancy or the baby having Down’s Syndrome or some other genetic disorder. He also mentioned financial concerns but then says he would rather us adopt a child.
Can we practice NFP to avoid pregnancy due to these concerns?
