Can women serve at the Tridentine Mass?

Now that Rome has eased restrictions on the use of the Tridentine Mass, a lot of parishes in our area have added this celebration to their weekly schedule. However, what about women who have been serving as lectors and extraordinary ministers of holy Communion, and girls as altar servers? May they still act in these capacities, or does the use of the Tridentine Mass return us to the days when women were restricted from any liturgical roles whatsoever?

Whether or not some of the liturgical disciplines concerning the participation of women in the liturgy that were proper to the Tridentine Latin Mass prior to Vatican II and the 1983 Code of Canon Law will be carried over by force of law into the extraordinary form of the Roman rite permitted by Pope Benedict XVI’s motu proprio, is something the Church may eventually have to definitively determine. In the interim, it appears safe to say that while women do not appear to be *specifically and definitively excluded *by ecclesial authority from serving at the Tridentine Mass as they are allowed to serve at the ordinary form of the Roman rite, they may choose not to do so either out of personal preference or out of a desire to avoid causing undue scandal to fellow congregants.
