I think this is the right forum for my question but please move it if that is not the case. What to do if someone is doing wrong as a result of misunderstanding and poor judgment and what he/she are doing is right because the situation is created by injustice and maybe personal feelings against that person? Tell those who need to know, being aware that it will make things even worse and really has nothing to do with the present nor future? Or do what seem just to the person that has not done nothing wrong but being put in a situation where nobody wanted to give him a fair and possible chance, and keep quiet?

I don’t understand your question.

We are morally obliged to enlighten the person.

We have to choose what we consider to be the lesser evil in the light of the probable consequences.

The question is unclear.

No wonder you did not understand my question. I was a bit confusing,it happen. What I did mean is that we have this soccer-team for kids. I drive them around to games sometimes. OK,there is this child who does not have the right socks and he has been told ever so often that he need to get new. I know that his family can’t afford them. One parent to another boy did buy him new ones but the team-leader said that he can not use them because he was told to buy them himself. I know it makes no sense, but that is their team-leader for you. A mean man who treat the kids wrong and is all about rules rules and once more rules. Many players has been suspended for breaches against his rules. (No laughing,no talking, run only when he say so…) The parents want to “make him go away” but it is his team and he pays a lot to have it. Now the boy has new socks, but he told the coach that he did buy them and that is not true. One other parent did buy them. I know this. I need the extra money I get for driving them from games home and to games and if the coach will know that I know he will sack me. So I know this. Shall I be honest and maybe save my extra job or keep my mouth shut?

The lie is justified; the man is unreasonable and his request is unreasonable of the boy that he must buy something he cannot afford.

Keep quiet and hope the boy keeps quiet about the socks. Do not bring it up again. I know you are in Europe, but here one cannot be fired for keeping such a secret about where socks were purchased.

I don’t know the driving arrangement, but I assume the coach is not your employer and someone else is paying you to provide the transportation? If so, he cannot fire you if he is not your employer.

In any case, this is one of those lies that are allowed as you are protecting the boy from the unfair treatment from a coach.

sorry the question makes no sense
nothing can make an objective wrong into an objective right
there may be circumstances that mitigate or remove individual guilt for the wrong action, but it is still objectively wrong, and no matter how good the outcome the individual intends in doing the wrong action, that still cannot make it right.

I read the soccer story and sorry, still don’t see the grave wrong involved. What am I missing? what is your question? If the soccer coach is behaving in ways that endanger children or break rules of the league, report him to the authorities and let them handle it, that is their job.

The OP is being overly scrupulous. He believes he knows of a lie (the boy must buy the socks but another parent bought them against this arbitrary and worthless rule) so his conscience is bothering him as to whether he tells the truth or not on how the boy got the new socks demanded. He should forget it, for a number of reasons. The rule on the socks is arbitrary and unfair and he must forget what he knows about the socks because he’s the driver for the kids – not a parent.

What knowlege he has came about in some indirect way and he’s not responsible for any of this, so he must put it out of his mind. If he were a parent, and if he were in the U.S, we could advise him on how to proceed against the coach. But, he’s not asking to take action against the coach but, rather, whether he has an obligation to report that the boy did not get the socks on his own and another family bought the socks contrary to a stupid rule. We have no obligation to support stupidity and it would create greater harm to the boy if this ridiculous coach found out his stupid sock rule was violated. If it were my son, there would be no more soccer but this man is only the driver for the boys. Possibly someone more familiar with European soccer league structure could chime in, but I do not think he’s in a position to take this above the coach since he’s not one of the parents, unless he had the backing of the parents too who don’t seem to be proactive against this coach.

Are you in Germany or Austria? I have to ask because though I realize how important soccer is to Europeans, it belies belief that parents put up with an abusive and archaic coach. It would be much more helpful if someone knew who was also from the same country, but you create no sin by keeping quiet. Just do the driving, for now.

The parents need to get together and do something about this coach, even to leaving the team or league. Here in the U.S. this would not go on because the coach does not own the team and there are ways to remove an abusive coach or parent. But that’s not the question.

OP, you need to also speak with a priest on a tendency to be overscrupulous – seeing sin where not telling the truth (about the socks) would protect a child from an arbitrary coach. The coach has no right to determine where the boy’s socks come from, so you have nothing to do with this.

I think if I were in your shoes… I would keep the secret between me and the boy. I would gladly risk losing my job for a child to be able to participate. Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for Him.

Happy new year and thank you for all the good advices. I just needed to know where I stand in this matter. The couch is what he is but it is his team and some parent are very pleased by the way he handles it. Soccer is a big issue in Europe and it goes a bit to far to often. I think some members from UK understand what I mean.
I really need this extra job and the parents pay the couch who pays me for driving the team-bus. But you did write what I wanted to read, thank you. And yes,I will not say a word about the socks.
