Can you answer some quetions about Communion?

Hello, I have not been able to find a message for this specific type of question.

I am Catholic and have been attending Presbyterian Church with my wife and child (as they are Presbyterian). I understand from reading alot of the information on this site how that is viewed and what it means), but still go to mass in addition to going to their church roughly once a month.

I have not taken communion at the Presbyterian church, and understand the implications around that as well (based on the information here on this site).

Here’s my question. If I were to take communion there at any point and time, is there anything that I would need to do in advance of receiving communion back at my church (assuming that all other guidlines are fine).

Hi,

I almost don’t know where to start. First of all, were you married through the Catholic Church? If not, then you may not receive Holy Communion even in the Catholic Church. We don’t recognize the Eucharist in Protestant churches as valid and Catholics are not allowed under pain of sin to receive their eucharist. So, no you may not receive at your wife’s church.

If you were married through the Catholic Church, then you may go to Confession and receive Holy Communion in the Catholic Church. If you weren’t and neither of you have been married previously to someone else, then you may have your married blessed by the Catholic Church. See your priest about this.
