I noticed that at the Good Friday service, the priest upon entering the altar, lies flat on the altar. I would like to know what the symbolism or idea behind that is.
I’m sure you mean that the priest prostrated on the floor AT the altar and not on it. Such a gesture can symbolize repentance, submission and also adoration.
