Have you ever asked God to forgive you for something that you are not truely sorry for doing? Can you be forgiven?

I have asked God for forgiveness for things before when I was only sorry because I feared the fires of Hell. Is that what you’re talking about? I’m not sure but I believe that kind of contrition is known as imperfect contrition but it is suitable for confession.

Thanks for the reply. I guess that might be what I was refering to, but more precisely I mean something like asking God to forgive me, when deep down inside I am sorry because I know whatever it was that I did was against God’s will, but at the same time I realize that I’m really not that sorry for what I did. Like, when someone insults me, my wife, or my daughter and I throw a insult their way to get even. I know in my heart that this is against God’s will, but at the same time I feel good about “getting even” or even better if I really “put them in their place”.

This is one thing i struggle with because i will do something and i wont think its a sin so i dont feel that that sorry, but then i feel a bit guilty just incase it is a sin and i know the church says its a sin so i will go to forgiveness just incase its a sin but i still dont feel sorry for doing it in the same way that i would if i saw that I definately hurt someone. guess its just one of my flaws =/
