Can you be in Purgatory while alive?

Catholic book for dummies says that one might be in purgatory while alive if you have a bad disease or the like.

I have an incurable autoimmune disorder that is very painful and doesn’t seem to respond well to medication. Could this be my Purgatory?

I don’t know what that book specifically says but Purgatory is not for those who are alive, it is the purification of the deceased who are going to heaven. We can most definitely undergo purification while on Earth through our trials and sufferings but that is not Purgatory.
