My pastor’s homily on Sunday concerned his “mother” who many years ago went to a priest and confessed that she practiced contraception. The confessor refused her absolution so she went to another priest who granted her absolution. His point was that priests should not be as the scribes were ,unbendable. When I questioned him ie what about repent and sin no more, or how can one priest refuse absolution and another give it ,ie aren’t we one church using the same bible and wasn’t the interpretation left to the Magisterium rather than individuals which by the way is the reason for thousands of christian sects. He was not happy with my questions and cut the email conversation short. The homily the prior Sunday also suggested that ’ if you know someone who has been turned off by a priest have him come and see me we will make it right’( I have paraphrased his comment)He gives the impression that whatever you do can be forgiven which is true BUT he leaves out the part where you need to repent and sin no more.Am I being a scribe???thank you sal
