So I have been doing a bit of research on the subject and found that the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation) has forgiven our sins in the eyes of the Church and God.
But what about indulgences?
Indulgences are supposed to appease the punishment by God for our sins. But if that were the case, then why does the priest tell us to pray a set of prayers after each Confession? If I were to confess to lying, then the priest would tell me to perform maybe three “Our Father” prayers as my penance. But what changes that from the act of indulgences?
