I was raised Catholic. I had my first confession in 1976 or so. I have been to confession a handfull of times since. The last was approximately 10 years ago. My wife is a recent convert. In her conversion, she did not have to make her first confession. Neither one of us fully understands how to make a confession. We informed our parish priest about the situation described above. his response was that "we don’t want people in confession that do not know how.’ he then told us we should talk to a lay person in our parish about how to confess.
We may not know the precise protocol on how to confess, but feel it very important at this stage in our lives that we go soon and continue to go on a regular basis. Should we simply make an appointment with another parish priest. It seems odd that our parish priest would not welcome us with open arms and invite us in individually to confess. Your help is appreciated.
